Education for Killianwala in the 21st Century

We all agree that the purpose of education is to build peace, eradicate poverty and drive sustainable development. However, these opportunities are not available to everyone everywhere especially in the rural areas.

Amin Education Network (AEN) is designed overcome that gap in the local rural area of Kilianwala and to provide learning and teaching opportunities, recognizing that education is a human right for all throughout life, especially for children in their formative years.  AEN strives to community capacity building, that is, to strengthening the skills, competencies and abilities of children and thus its people and community so they can overcome the causes of their exclusion and suffering.  AEN work encompasses educational development from pre-school to higher secondary education for now and beyond at a later date.

My family’s association with Kilianwala dates back to early 20th century. I have been visiting this area since my early childhood. My earliest memories of this region are filled with energetic, enthusiastic and intelligent children, hard working adults and kind and considerate elders. Unfortunately, due to a lack of proper education the potential for growth and advancement remains elusive.

After my retirement, encouraged by the people of Kalianwala, motivated by emotional attachment, I decided to invest in the future of this area.

The initial idea was to focus on early education of children by launching a primary school and provide employment for local graduates in education. When children are young, they are learning sponges. Every new experience, every word they learn, every behavior they adopt, is an investment in a more fruitful future. Therefore. I wanted to build a facility where education would include

  1. Meeting the academic requirement of the local school board,
  2. Molding the holistic child, which will eventually form the basis of their lifelong journey.

This would be done in a physical facility that is conducive to learning experience and socialising between students, teachers and their parents and neighbours.

We started with a modest facility, small enrolement and local teachers and support staff. The children were from all walks of life. The teachers were local graduates in education. This met the dual objective of education and employment.

Financially, we devised a fee structure to support all students and pay reasonable salary to teachers and staff. The operating loss was absorbed by my own funds.

Since then, there has been a steady growth in enrolment and concurrent increase in the number of teachers and support staff.. We expect these numbers to grow in the future. The official population of Kilianwala, roughly 50,000 people, can support greater numbers of enrolment and higher education levels. In fact, plans are underway to extend the facility to higher secondary education in the coming years.

AEN has been implementing these objectives since its inception and to date has made significant progress. We expect that in the near future, this will be a fully self-supporting academic institution.

It now needs your cooperation to go to the next step.

I invite you to come and visit the facility, with your family and friends, talk to our teachers, let your child interact with students and decide for yourself.

We are looking forward to your visit.     Thankyou.

Miss Sadaf Jabeen

Principal

On behalf of the people of Killianwala, the teachers, the parents, and students, I would like to thank Maj. Gen. M. Amin Wiqar for his vision, initiative, investment and commitment in building the school in our village.

Gen. Amin Wiqar has built a school facility that is the best and the largest in the region. It consists of 40 classrooms equipped with proper furniture and 18 up-to-date computers for students and teachers. The building has two full time petrol electric generator and  plans are underway to install solar system for uninterrupted power supply. The building includes a library and advanced security system (21 CCT camera) for a peace of mind atmosphere for all staff members.

The teaching and non-teaching staff is from the local area within the commuting distance. The teaching staff has at least a bachelor’s degree, some have master’s degree while most have a bachelor of education degree.

The teachers are dedicated to teaching the academic curriculum of the local school board and where a child shows ability and interest, to prepare him/her for scholarship exams. The personal attention that teachers pay to each child is made possible by maintaining a 35 students to one teacher ratio in all classes.

In addition, teachers are committed to build a strong foundation for a child’s emotional, social, physical and mental development, which will prepare them for a lifetime by teaching the students

  1. How to share, cooperate, tolerate, take turns and persevere within a safe learning environment.
  2. How to respect people, belongings and environment.
  3. How to work as a team and respect the opinions of others, listening, cooperation and equality.
  4. How to develop a strong sense of well being with confidence, optimism and self-esteem which will encourage children to explore their talents, skills and interests.
  5. How to value differences and diversity that guide children to appreciate and accept differences and become well-rounded contributors to society.

Finally and most importantly, while I manage the academic side of the school, the success of the school is due to the overall day-to –day involvement and management by Maj Gen (Retd) M. Amin Waqar, the founder and managing director. We can’t thank him enough for his dedication to the school.

I invite you to come and see me at the school, see the facility and meet the teachers and decide for yourself.
